HomeMy WebLinkAbout94-115 - ADMIN Resolution - City Council - 1994/08/29Resolution 94-115 Changing the Name of Tower Park to Elie Park WHEREAS, municipal park property addressed as 8301 West 34th Street and located at the juncture of West 34-1/2 Street and Wyoming Avenue South was developed as a public park in 1968 and was named "Tower Park" by the City Council in 1972, WHEREAS, this property was formerly owned by Alfred and Nora Elie as a portion of a 10 acre parcel which included a 4 bedroom brick home located at 8206 West 35th Street, WHEREAS, Alfred and Nora Elie dedicated the property currently known as Tower Park to the City of St. Louis Park in 1952 with the hope that the property would be developed into a park; WHEREAS, in accordance with the guidelines for the naming of parks which was approved by the City Council in 1977, the name of the individual or family which dedicated property for park purposes may appropriately be considered for naming that park, WHEREAS, a number of existing park properties and public bodies of water are currently named for the individuals or families which dedicated the property for public use, WHEREAS, the City has received a request from Mr Allard Elie, the oldest son of Alfred and Nora Elie to officially name the property which was dedicated by his parents to the City for park purposes as "Elie Park", WHEREAS, the requested change in names from Tower Park to Elie Park is considered to have no detrimental impact on the neighborhood nor on the City's ability to provide for the health, safety and welfare of its residents, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of St. Louis Park that the municipal park property located at 8301 West 34th Street is hereby named Elie Park in recognition of the family which originally donated this property for public park use 0Reviewed for Administration Ci Manager Adopted by the City Council August 29, 1994 Approved as to form and execution. 34u ; 4( a lite( .
