Canvass of City Election Results Resolution declaring the results of the Municipal Election held November 2, 1999 Recommended Action: Motion to approve the resolution declaring results of the Municipal Election held November 2, 1999 Background: City Charter section 4.08 requires the City Council to meet and canvass election returns within seven days of any election and declare the results as soon as possible. As required by charter, the resolution includes: • total number of good ballots cast • total number of spoiled or defective ballots • the vote for each candidate with a declaration of those who were elected • a true copy of the ballots used • the names of the judges and clerks of election Attachments: Resolution Prepared by: Cynthia D. Larsen Approved by: RESOLUTION NO. 99-129 RESOLUTION CANVASSING ELECTION RETURNS OF ST. LOUIS PARK - NOVEMBER 2, 1999 MUNICIPAL GENERAL ELECTION WHEREAS, pursuant to City Charter Section 4.08, the City Council shall meet and canvass election returns within seven days of any election and shall declare the results as soon as possible; and WHEREAS, the results prepared and certified to by the election judges have been presented in summary form to the City Council for inspection, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council as follows: 1. The November 2nd, 1999 election returns having been canvassed, the votes received by each candidate for city offices are as follows: Mayor Jacobs 2,393 97.7% Write-ins 56 2.3% 2,449 100.0% At Large A Latz 2,328 97.7% Write-ins 54 2.3% 2,382 100.0% At Large B Brimeyer 1,474 59.4% Flanagan 1,000 40.3% Write-ins 9 0.4% 2,483 100.0% Ward III Councilmember Santa 586 98.2% Write-ins 11 1.8% 597 100.0% Attached Appendix A is a complete tabulation of results for all offices voted in the election. 2. The number of spoiled ballots, the number of persons registered prior to the election and on election day, the number of voter receipts, the number of absentee ballots, and the total number of good votes cast in the city are as follows: SPOILED BALLOTS 44 Registered @ 7 am 27,884 REG. ON ELECTION DAY 81 Total Registered 27,965 VOTER RECEIPTS 2,599 ABSENTEE BALLOTS 165 TOTAL GOOD VOTES CAST 2,764 (PERCENT VOTING) 10% 3. NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council that the following candidates have been elected to four (4) year terms commencing January 4, 2000: Mayor Jeffrey Jacobs Councilmember At-Large A Ron Latz Councilmember At-Large B James Brimeyer And the following candidate has been elected to a two (2) year term commencing January 4, 2000: Councilmember Ward Three Susan Santa Reviewed for Administration: Adopted by the City Council November 8, 1999 City Manager Mayor Attest: City Clerk AGENDA CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING ST. Adjournment Memorandum To: Mayor and City Council From: Charles W. Meyer, City Manager Regarding: Evaluation of City Manager Date: November 4, 1999 Larry Bakken will be meeting with the Council on Monday, November 8 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. He will bring with him the compiled results from the surveys which you and the Department Heads completed. Due to scheduling difficulties he was not able to get the report out in advance but will be providing it and going through it in detail with you on Monday. Larry has already met with me this week to review his notes and solicit my comments and responses. He will incorporate those comments into his report to you. As agreed, I will not be present during this session on Monday. The meeting will be held in the Third Floor Conference Room. Box lunches will be available for the Council. Once again, I thank you for the time and effort that you have put into this evaluation.
