Canvass of City Election Results Resolution declaring the results of the Municipal Election held November 4, 2003 Recommended Action: Motion to approve the resolution declaring results of the Municipal Election held November 4, 2003 Background: City Charter section 4.08 requires the City Council to meet and canvass election returns within seven days of any election and declare the results as soon as possible. As required by charter, the resolution includes: • total number of good ballots cast • total number of spoiled or defective ballots • the vote for each candidate with a declaration of those who were elected • a true copy of the ballots used • the names of the judges and clerks of election Attachments: Resolution Prepared by: Cynthia D. Reichert Approved by: Charles W. Meyer, City Manager RESOLUTION NO. 03-_________ RESOLUTION CANVASSING ELECTION RETURNS OF ST. LOUIS PARK - NOVEMBER 4, 2003 MUNICIPAL GENERAL ELECTION WHEREAS, pursuant to City Charter Section 4.08, the City Council shall meet and canvass election returns within seven days of any election and shall declare the results as soon as possible; and WHEREAS, the results prepared and certified to by the election judges have been presented in summary form to the City Council for inspection, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council as follows: 1. The November 4, 2003 election returns having been canvassed, the votes received by each candidate for city offices are as follows: CITY OFFICES Mayor Jeffrey W. Jacobs 3,214 97.4% Write-ins 87 2.6% 3,301 100.0% At-Large A Paul G. Omodt 2,011 54.3% Ann Thomas 1,688 45.5% Write-ins 7 0.2% 3,706 100.0% At-Large B Phillip Finkelstein 2,042 58.9% Steven A. Hallfin 1,406 40.6% Write-ins 17 0.5% 3,465 100.0% Ward II John Basill 772 98.1% Write-ins 15 1.9% 787 100.0% 2. The number of spoiled ballots, the number of persons registered prior to the election and on election day, the number of voter receipts, the number of absentee ballots, and the total number of good votes cast in the city are as follows: SPOILED BALLOTS 26 REGISTERED AT 7 A.M. 28,619 REG AT THE POLLS 96 TOTAL REGISTERED 28,715 VOTER RECEIPTS 3,653 ABSENTEE BALLOTS 178 TOTAL VOTERS 3,831 (PERCENT VOTING) 13% 3.
