Call to Order Chair Curtain called the meeting to order at 7:04pm. A. Roll Call Commissioners Present: Michelle Kornblit, DJ Hamm, Greg Gidden, Katherine Arnold, Savannah Curtin, Margaret Rog, Bob Griggs, and Will Poulter. B. Approval of Agenda A request was made to add an open discussion on the topic of law signs to the agenda. An additional request was made to add a discussion regarding the open student seat to the agenda. The Commissioners agreed to add those items to the agenda. Commissioner Rog moved to approve the agenda. Commissioner Gidden seconded the motion. The motion passed 8-0. C. Approval of Minutes It was moved by Commissioner Curtin to approve the August 16, 2016 meeting minutes. It was seconded by Commissioner Kornblit. The motion passed 8-0. II. New Chair Discussion Commissioner Curtin asked the Commissioners to indicate if they were interested in the role of Chair. Commissioner Arnold indicated interest. No other Commissioners indicated interest. The Commission voted on Commissioner Arnold as the new Chair. The vote passed 8-0. Commissioner Curtin asked the Commissionersto indicate if they were interested in the role of Vice Chair. Commissioner Hamm indicated interest. No other Commissioners indicated interest. The Commission voted on Commissioner Hamm as the new Vice Chair. The vote passed 8-0. III. Coffee & Culture Chat The Commission discussed dates and topics for the next Coffee and Culture Chat. The Commission also discussed goals for the event and what choices would best support those goals. The Commission decided the topic should generally address the community’s feelings on the use of lawn signs with the slogans “Black Lives Matter” and “Thank You SLP Police.” The Commission decided the event should be held before the Election at the High School if space was available. The Commission decided to hold an off-cycle meeting to allow more in-depth planning of the event. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:00pm.
