HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014/06/26 - ADMIN - Minutes - Fire Civil Service Commission - Regular FIRE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MINUTES June 26, 2014 – 8:30 a.m. FIRE STATION 1 CONFERENCE ROOM 1. The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. by Commissioner Rhodes. 2. In attendance were Commissioners David Lee and Jim Rhodes. Also present were Ali Fosse, HR Coord/Staff Liaison; Steve Koering, Fire Chief; Rodger Coppa, and Cary Smith, Assistant Chiefs; Eric Curran-Bakken, Local 993 Union President; Mark Nelson, Captain; and Bill Ryan, Firefighter. 3. A motion was made by Commissioner Lee, seconded by Commissioner Rhodes, to approve the minutes from the April 23, 2014 meeting. Motion carried unanimously. 4. Chief Koering presented the recruitment process for the position of Deputy Fire Chief. We had 50 applicants. Nine candidates were invited to a first round interview, seven accepted. Three candidates passed the first interview and went to the second interview and meet & greet with the department. All three candidates are presented to the Commission for approval of the Eligibility Roster. Commissioner Rhodes was involved in the first interview panel and expressed his admiration for the candidates and the process. A motion was made by Commissioner Lee, seconded by Commissioner Rhodes, to approve the Deputy Fire Chief Eligibility Roster. Motion carried unanimously. 5. In other business, Commissioner Rhodes notified the commission that he is moving out of St. Louis Park and can therefore no longer serve as a Fire Civil Service Commissioner, effective July 1, 2014. He emphasized his sadness at leaving and how much he would miss being a resident of SLP, but also stated that he would be around and available for any SLP events or occasions where he was needed. On behalf of the Commission, Commissioner Lee thanked Commissioner Rhodes for his service and volunteerism, noting that Commissioner Rhodes helped everyone learn more by asking insightful and good questions. Chief Koering thanked Commissioner Rhodes for his work in helping the Department hire a new Chief. All attendees thanked him for his service and wished him well as a resident of a new city. 6.
