HomeMy WebLinkAbout87-55 - ADMIN Resolution - City Council - 1987/05/04RESOLUTION NO. 87-55 RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE EDUCATION AIDS BILL Whereas, the Education Aids bills currently under consideration in both houses of the state legislature spell financial disaster for suburban school districts, including St. Louis Park and its taxpayers; Whereas, taxpayers in our district are facing severe increases in the school portion of their property taxes, even though the additional funds raised will not result in new revenues for our schools; Whereas, our district and other suburban districts will not receive sufficient revenue to maintain the current level of educational programs; Whereas, we support the need for equitable educational programs for all Minnesota students; but recognize that equity does not necessarily mean equal funding and that solutions should not come at the expense of quality education in other school districts; Now therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of St. Louis Park that we urge state legis- lators to identify school finance solutions which, at minimum, will allow quality education programs in our districts to be sustained while legislative efforts are made to address concerns about program and finance equity and efficiency in school districts throughout Minnesota.
