There is a disconnect between bylaws and City code. Want to ensure there is a alignment. Want to understand what our mandate is. We want to get clear about the role of HRc how does council understand the role of HRC? The bylaws report - This how the Commission is seeing its role Human Rights Commission -2- 7/20/2021 This could be a powerful opportunity for robust advocacy and move into a bigger powerful direction to be aligned with City Charter. Tighten intention of our charge – sharping the focus of our charge. Getting buy in from the Council. It is all about HRC being able to operate in the ways we want to operate. And we need to change what we need to change so we can operate in the way HRC wants to operate. Is this what City council still envision? Lets do a bit of research around what HRC around do? Nichole and Darius check in about it. 8. Conversion Therapy Update Executive orders are temporary and therefore an ordinance will allow for an level of permeant that executive orders do not. The executive order is vague and redundant. HRC wants to take the message its not therapy by rather torture. Moving SLP in the direction of ordinance because we are so close and have been working through this in anyhow. Each city that does there own makes the executive order stronger. SLP doing an ordinance communicates that SLP we are fighting conversion therapy with everything we have. Thinks it very important to push council. We should not hide behind the government. WE don’t want SLP to become a safe haven for conversion therapy if the executive order is cancelled. The executive order was good that it could that it prohibited insurance companies from paying for it. 9.
