8. Conversion Therapy Update – Maria
Back in 2019 Outfront approached the City to ban conversion Therapy in the Community.
Human Rights Commission -2- 3/16/2021
Council stated they wanted to have the State take up the issue. Council passed a resolution to
ban conversion therapy.
Maria and Darius have met with different staff from different dept.
Does HRC want to keep moving forward with this considering that lack of ability to
enforcement?
We are talking about more than a ban we are talking about getting rid of torture.
Baudhin would still be in favor of pushing for an ordinance.
City Council is asking for the recommendation of what the HRC wants regarding conversion
therapy.
Osei – this is not something to be neutral on. The importance is that SLP is very clear. Don’t be
neutral for fear of litigation.
Allow the City Strategic plan to help guide them around this issue.
Even if you don’t have the power to enforce putting this in words can change behavior.
HRC is asking for us to continue.
**** Darius will confirm outfront
Commission would like to see the draft ordinance before it goes to council . ***Darius will work
with staff to get draft ordinance moving forward.
Draft of what HRC would like to provide rational for why they are moving forward.
