HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996/03/25 - ADMIN - Minutes - Community Technology Advisory Commission - RegularMinutes Cable TV Advisory Commission Study Session St. Louis Park, Minnesota 6:00pm March 25, 1996 at City Hall Third Floor Conference Room 5005 Minnetonka Blvd. Box lunches were available at 6:00pm. Attending were: Chairman Bruce Browning, Commissioners Tony Raiber, Joel Brand, Ken Huiras, Mike Ganyo, Dobie Hunegs and Beth Corgan-Porth; Paragon Cable representatives Mark Hammerstrom and Kim Roden; and City representative Reg Dunlap. To get acquainted, each person briefly described their background and interest in the Cable TV Commission. There was discussion about the history of the Commission and the expectations of the members. About 6:20pm Mr. Hammerstrom passed out maps on the fiber optic cable enhancements in St. Louis Park, and described some of its features. For example, signal redundancy back to the line amplifiers if a node were to fail. Nodes decrease the number of line amps to 5 or 6, from as many as 21 in the previous architecture. Mr. Hammerstrom mentioned new services beginning April 1 and provided a handout with the details. From about 6:45pm-7:05pm, Mayor Gail Dorfman & City Council members Jim Brimeyer and Jeff Jacobs attended to meet the new members and discuss any concerns from the Commissioners. Between 7:05 and 8:20pm, the Commission discussed topics for the 1996 work plan, including the role of the Commission, publicity, the studio, the School District grant, future technological services, conducting meetings on cable tv and discounts and programming for seniors. It was determined that Monday nights were the best meeting night. Mr. Dunlap discussed the proposed time line to approve the upgrade and six year extension language, and meetings were set for April 8 and April 15 at City Hall in the third floor conference room. Chairman Browning proposed deferring other discussion items, and the study session adjourned at 8:20pm. Respectfully submitted by recording secretary
