Police Advisory Commission
Minutes – July 6th, 2016
Aquila Room, City Hall
I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:05.
Commissioners Present: Charles Kelly, Kevin Curry, Michael Howes
Staff Present: Lieutenant Harcey
II. Approval of Minutes
The minutes from the May 6th, 2016 were reviewed.
III. Golf Tournament
The Golf Tournament is scheduled for September 9th at the Brookview Golf Course.
Save the Date post cards were mailed and the letters to businesses were scheduled to be
mailed out on 7-12-16. Commissioners were reminded that they will need to assist with
contacting sponsors for donations and for assistance on the day of the event.
III. Citizens Academy
Lt. Harcey Provided information on the development of a Police Citizens Academy. The
Academy will be eight weeks starting on 09-26-16. Lt. Harcey informed the Commission
that they are encourage to attend, assist with logistics, and promote the event.
IV. SLP Friends of the Arts’ Our Town Sings
As a result of the joint project between the PAC, HRC, and MAC to reach out to
immigrant and diverse communities PAC members participated in the SLP Friends of the
Art’s Our Town Sings event on 7-19-16 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
V. National Night Out
National Night Out is scheduled for 08-02-16. Commissioners were encourage to ride
with officers that night or attend or host their own neighborhood party.
VI. PSA
Commissioner Howes suggested that a PSA on school bus stop arm safety. Lt. Harcey
reaffirmed that these types PSA’s could be valuable for the community and that this
would be a good project for Commissioners to work on. PSA’s are posted on City web
site and also put on the local cable channel and YouTube. Information about them can
also be put on Facebook announcements, Twitter and Next Door.

a. Neighborhood Meetings are scheduled on 8-23 for the Minikahda Vista /
Browndale neighborhoods, 9-15 for the Elmwood / Brooklawn /
Meadowbrook / Creekside neighborhoods, and 9-20 for the Wolfe Park
neighborhood.
b. Lt. Harcey informed the commission that there were upcoming interviews of
police officer candidates and requested assistance from commissioners on the
interview panels.
c. Commissioners were encouraged to contact Lt. Harcey to set up a ride along
with an Officer.

The meeting adjourned at 8:10 PM.
