Ordinance regarding painted signs
The City of St. Louis Park does ordain:
Section 1. The city council has considered the advice and recommendation of the
planning commission (Case No. 20-18-ZA) for amending the zoning ordinance Section 36-362.
Section 2. Chapter 36, Section 362 of the St. Louis Park City Code is hereby amended by
adding underscored text and deleting the strike through text. Section breaks are represented by

Sec. 36-362. Sign regulations.

(d) Exempt signs. The following signs are exempt from the provisions of this section:

(3) Supergraphics., except that a permit shall be required.

(e) Prohibited signs. The following signs are prohibited in all use districts:

(9) Signs painted directly on a building.
(109) Signs mounted on chimneys, rooftop equipment, observation towers, flagpoles, cooling
towers, elevator penthouses, commercial antennas, communication towers, belfries, church
spires and cupolas.
(110) Signs, including the sign structure or any other component of the sign, that rotate,
revolve, scroll, move, flash, blink, fade, or are animated.
(f) General provisions. Subject to the following regulations, signs are a permitted accessory use
in all use districts:

(16) Removal of painted signs. Any structure from which a painted sign is removed shall be
repainted, sandblasted or treated in a manner which makes the former sign not visible. The
surface from which the sign was removed, shall be refinished in a manner to match the
surrounding surface.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect November 13, 2020
