A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE GRANT APPLICATION TO
THE COMMISSION ON GOVERNMENT INNOVATION AND COOPERATION,
TO STUDY THE ISSUE OF TAXICAB REGULATION
WHEREAS, over one-half of the cities m the metropolitan area presently hcense taxi operations
which results m duplication of regulation, and
WHEREAS, the city regulations vary considerably from each other , causing unnecessary expense
and confusion among the business operators, and
WHEREAS, there is no metropolitan wide agency which has assumed the responsibility for
consistent and comprehensive regulation of the business, and
WHEREAS, the city of Minneapolis, St Paul, and Bloomington, the Metropolitan Airports
Commission and the Metropolitan Council are completing a grant application to fund a study of the taxi
regulations, and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the study is to develop a model which can be applied on either a
metropolitan wide basis or among cooperating municipalities to reduce duplication, minimize municipal
expense and yet encourage adequate quality taxi service m the metropolitan area
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the St Louis Park City Council that it supports the
grant application to the Commission on Government Innovation and Cooperation, for the purpose studying
the taxi regulation and proposing model which the City can use
