SUPPORTING AND ENDORSING
THE MINNEHAHA CREEK WATERSHED DISTRICT'S PROPOSAL
FOR THE TREATMENT OF STORMWATER RUNOFF FROM
THE SOUTHWEST CALHOUN SUBWATERSHED
WHEREAS, the City of St. Louis Park is a member of the Chain of Lakes Clean Water
Partnership (CWP) with the City of Minneapolis, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, the
Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, Hennepin County and the Minnesota Pollution Control
Agency; and
WHEREAS, the City of St. Louis Park and other members of the partnership have joined into
this partnership for the purpose of improving water quality in the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes
through a comprehensive watershed management effort; and
WHEREAS, the Southwest Lake Calhoun Subwatershed has been identified as a major
contributor of pollutants to Lake Calhoun, and reducing the amount of pollutants entering Lake
Calhoun is key to the improvement of lake water quality; and
WHEREAS, through the Chain of Lakes CWP project the Minnehaha Creek Watershed
District has completed a feasibility study for management of runoff from the Lake Calhoun
Watershed (Southwest Lake Calhoun Subwatershed Improvements), which assessed fourteen
alternative solutions and presents a conceptual design for the preferred alternative; and
WHEREAS, the preferred alternative presented will reduce the amount of pollutants entering
Lake Calhoun, improve water quality and insure that the Chain of Lakes will be a recreational,
aesthetic and economic asset for city residents and park users; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City of St. Louis Park, supports the
watershed management plan set forth by the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, as part of the
Chain of Lakes CWP project, and will work with the Clean Water Partners to implement the preferred
altemative solution for the Southwest Lake Calhoun Subwatershed Improvements.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of St. Louis Park supports and endorses the
Minnehaha Creek Watershed District's efforts to improve water quality in the Minneapolis Chain of
Lakes.
