HomeMy WebLinkAbout96-96 - ADMIN Resolution - City Council - 1996/07/01RESOLUTION NO. 96-96 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING,METROPOLITAN GROWTH OPTIONS WHEREAS, Metropolitan Council is considering input from interest groups on Growth Options to guide development in the Metropolitan region through the years 2020; and WHEREAS, the Growth Options include "Current Trends", "Concentrated Development", "Growth Centers" or a hybrid; and WHEREAS, Adoption of any Metropolitan Growth Options would affect growth and development within the City of St. Louis Park; and WHEREAS, the "Concentrated Development" option involves the lowest overall public costs and supports infill and redevelopment of underutilized sites with existing infrastructure; and WHEREAS, the "Growth Centers" option supports many of the concepts included in the "Livable Communities Act' and WHEREAS, Protection of desirable open space and environmentally sensitive areas is an important aspect of any growth option; and WHEREAS, Adoption of growth management policies that extend beyond the existing seven county metropolitan area would prevent undesirable "leapfrog" development; and WHEREAS, the Planning Commission considered the Metropolitan Growth Options (Case No. 96-14-MISC.) at its June 17, 1996 meeting and voted to support the "Concentrated Development" option with certain aspects of the "Growth Centers" option, protection of desirable open space and environmentally sensitive areas; and growth management beyond the seven county metropolitan area on a 4-0 vote; and NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council adopt this resolution in support of the following: 1. "Concentrated Development" option with "Livable Communities" aspects of the "Growth Centers" option, including high density mixed use development at regional transportation nodes, pedestrian connections, and local circulators; and 2. Protection of the desirable open space and environmentally sensitive areas within the metropolitan area; and 3. Adoption of growth management policies that extend beyond the existing seven county metropolitan area to prevent undesirable "leapfrog" development.
