HomeMy WebLinkAbout96-176 - ADMIN Resolution - City Council - 1996/11/18r RESOLUTION NO. 96-176 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CREATION OF A COMMUNITY CELEBRATIONS TASK FORCE IN ST. LOUIS PARK WHEREAS, the City of St. Louis Park has supported and endorsed a "visioning process" in which a large number of residents and business owners worked collectively to shape a vision for the future of the community; and WHEREAS, the Community Connections Task Force associated with that visioning process provided recommendations to guide the development and promotion of community celebrations in the future, stating that such celebrations should: focus their activities in the Wolfe Park/Recreation Center area; expand the -volunteer leadership base of the organizations which are involved in the celebrations; and recruit a larger number of residents to participate in the process in order to stimulate community ownership of the celebrations; and WHEREAS, the City Council believes that it is necessary to create a broad-based community task force to study the aforementioned recommendations and to develop an implementation plan to see that they are carried out; and WHEREAS, a group of highly dedicated individuals have worked diligently for years to provide the community with a summer festival called Party in the Park, which has included royalty pageants, fireworks, parades, carnivals and other festivities; and WHEREAS, the City Council believes that it will be necessary to assign virtually all of the City's celebration -related assets to ensure a successful grand opening of the Rec Center Renaissance project in the summer of 1997, and WHEREAS, it will not be possible for the City to provide the Party in the Park festival with the level of support which it has been able to provide in previous years due to the grand opening of the Rec Center Renaissance project; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that all members of the Party in the Park committee who have worked so diligently over the years to provide this community with an annual summer festival are to be commended and applauded for their efforts; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a "Community Celebrations Task Force" is to be created to recommend a framework and format for all future community celebrations, and that the Task Force is to include representatives from a wide range of interest areas including members of the Party in the Park committee.
