RESOLUTION ACCEPTING DONATION FOR PUBLIC PURPOSES
WHEREAS, M S. 465 03 provides that any city may accept a grant or devise of real or personal
property and maintain such property for the benefit of its citizens in accordance with the terms
prescribed by the donor and that such acceptance or use shall not be authorized for religious or
sectarian purposes; and
WHEREAS, a Primary Election will be held in the City of St Louis Park on Tuesday, September
10, 1996 and a General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 1996, and
WHEREAS, the City Council approved the location of the Ward 3 Precinct 1 polling place at
Knollwood Mall (World Tae Kwon Do Academy) on August 5, 1996; and
WHEREAS, World Tae Kwon Do Academy has agreed to allow the City to use its facility at
Knollwood Mall as a polling place as long as the floor area is covered by carpeting to protect its
special flooring from damage from foot traffic; and
WHEREAS, Stone Mountain Carpet Mill Outlet, 8225 Highway 7, St. Louis Park, desires
to donate a protective carpet to be used by the City for public purposes, including providing the
needed floor covering for the Ward 3 Precinct 1 election polling place; and
WHEREAS, M.S. 465.03 authorizes that gifts of this nature shall be made to municipalities
by passage of a resolution of the governing body adopted by a two-thirds majority of its members
expressing such terms in full.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of St. Louis Park, that:
1. The City of St. Louis Park accepts the donation from Stone Mountain Carpet Mill Outlet of
138 yards of distressed acrylic yellow -beige (lambswool) carpet valued at $1,656 to be used by
the City exclusively for public purposes, including the 1996 Primary and General Elections;
2. The City of St Louis Park agrees to accept and maintain such property for the benefit of its
citizens in accordance with the terms prescribed by the donor;
3. The City of St. Louis Park agrees to use such personal property for legitimate public purposes
which shall not include religious or sectarian purposes; and
4. The City Council expresses its sincere gratitude for the generous donation of Stone Mountain
Carpet Mill Outlet to the City
