HomeMy WebLinkAbout93-12 - ADMIN Resolution - City Council - 1993/02/16RESOLUTION NO. 93-12 RESOLUTION REPEALING AND REPLACING RESOLUTION NO. 93-06 AND SUPPORTING LEGISLATION REGULATING RAILROAD ACTIVITIES BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 10:00 P.M. AND 6:00 A.M. WHEREAS, noise from night time railroad activities have resulted in citizen complaints of loss of sleep and the onset of physical and mental health problems related thereto, thereby constituting a public nuisance in populated residentially zoned areas; and WHEREAS, the health and well being of citizens living in the vicinity of railroads can be seriously impacted as a result of the night time railroad activities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City of St. Louis Park, Minnesota that it hereby repeals Resolution No. 93-06 supporting the prohibition of railroad switching activities between the hours of 10:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M. and hereby supports legislation chat would regulate to the maximum extent of the power of the State Legislature all railroad activities between the hours of 10:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M. and urges the State Legislature to enact legislation restricting such railroad activities and urges the Governor to support such legislation when enacted. Pires City Attorney /s/ Suesan Lea Pace Resolution Number 93-13 Resolution of Appreciation to Harlan Syverson WHEREAS, Harlan Syverson has served the City of St. Louis Park for more than 34 years from December 1, 1958, to March 19, 1993, beginning his career as an accounting clerk and eventually serving as Director of Finance, a position he has held since 1984; WHEREAS, St. Louis Park has benefited from his sound financial guidance which has enabled the City to build a new police station without increasing taxes, weather cutbacks in Federal and State aid without reducing service to St. Louis Park residents, and . continue to provide excellent employee benefits in a cost-effective manner despite rising costs; WHEREAS, his commitment to excellence has made it possible for the City to consistently win the top award for government financial reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada; WHEREAS, his commitment to innovation has helped the City achieve efficiencies in financial management and utility billing; WHEREAS, Harlan Syverson's commitment to St. Louis Park has also extended to community involvement including serving on Board of Directors of the Lenox Foundation, actively participating in activities of Union Congregational Church. coaching youth sports, participating in Indian Guides, serving as a volunteer instructor at Hamline University, and participating in employee sports teams and special events; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of the City of St. Louis Park, by this resolution and public record, recognize the outstanding contributions Harlan Syverson has made to the community; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council extend to Harlan Syverson best wishes for a lengthy, enjoyable and well-deserved retirement.
