RESOLUTION NO. 93-11
RESOLUTION REQUESTING VARIANCE FROM
MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION RULES
FOR STATE AID OPERATIONS REQUIRING A FOUR -LANE
ROAD ON CEDAR LAKE ROAD AND THE ASSOCIATED LANE WIDTHS
WHEREAS, the City wishes to reconstruct Cedar Lake Road from Trunk
Highway 169 to Park Place Boulevard (Vernon Avenue) using Municipal State Aid
funds; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Transportation rules for State Aid
operations, Chapter 8820.9950 and 8820.9935 require that urban State Aid
streets with 15,000 or greater average daily traffic be constructed to four
lanes and their associated lane widths; and
WHEREAS, the City believes there are compelling reasons for reducing the
lane requirements from four lanes to two lanes and the associated lane widths
while improving safety and traffic flow.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of St.
Louis Park, Minnesota does hereby request a variance from Minnesota Department
of Transportation rules for State Aid operations, Chapter 8820.9950 and
8820.9935, urban State Aid street four lane road and associated lane width
requirements, to allow reconstruction of Cedar Lake Road to a two-lane road
and associated lane widths.
