HomeMy WebLinkAbout90-95 - ADMIN Resolution - City Council - 1990/07/16RESOLUTION NO. 90-95 RESOLUTION REQUESTING CONGRESS TO PRESERVE PRIVATELY OWNED SUBSIDIZED HOUSING WHEREAS, there is a great need for affordable housing to meet the needs of low and moderate income families as evidenced by the increase in the number of homeless and the elimination of alternative funding sources; and WHEREAS, Department of Housing and Urban Development low interest mortgages which limit rents that can be charged are maturing on a considerable amount of housing over the foreseeable future, decreasing the supply of affordable housing available for low and moderate income families; and WHEREAS, legislation known as the Bartlett amendment has been introduced in Congress which would remove requirements that building owners convince the Department of Housing and Urban Development that displaced tenants can find alternative affordable housing in the community before the owners can pay off low interest mortgages early and raise rents to market rates; NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of St. Louis Park that Congress be urged to turn down this proposed legislation in order to preserve the available supply of privately owned affordable housing.
