RESOLUTION NO. 88-72
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT IN THE SOUTHWEST CORRIDOR
WHEREAS, the cities of St. Louis Park and Hopkins have been long-time
advocates of light rail transit as an effective means of
improving public transportation, as witnessed by St. Louis
Park Resolution No. 87-20 and Hopkins Resolution No. 88-14,
previously submitted to the Hennepin County Board; and
WHEREAS, the Hennepin County Railroad Authority has purchased railroad
right-of-way from downtown Minneapolis through the southwest
suburbs for the purpose of constructing a light rail transit
line; and
WHEREAS, the Hennepin County Board will be considering a decision
on June 21st that will determine the development of a light
rail transit system;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the cities of St. Louis Park
and Hopkins hereby reaffirm their strong support for development
of a southwest light rail line on a route to be determined by the
Hennepin County Railroad Authority (HCRRA), but preferably developed
along the right-of-way currently owned by the HCRRA, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the cities of St. Louis Park and Hopkins
put forth the following in support of developing a southwest line
as part of the Hennepin County light rail transit system.
Adopted June 20, 1988 by the City Council.
