HomeMy WebLinkAbout87-19 - ADMIN Resolution - City Council - 1987/03/02RESOLUTION NO. 87-19 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING ESTABLISHMENT OF A STATE-WIDE CANCER SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM WHEREAS, epidemiological studies conducted by the Minnesota Department of Health have focused on the incidence of breast cancer among St. Louis Park women; WHEREAS, these studies have concluded that there is not a correlation between the presence of groundwater contaminants and an increased rate of breast cancer; WHEREAS, St. Louis Park commends the Minnesota Department of Health for addressing health issues affecting St. Louis Park and recognizes the benefit of providing increased information on cancer incidence to all communities, some of which may be unaware of existing health risks; and WHEREAS, a systematic method for collecting data about the incidence of all forms of cancer throughout the state is needed to respond to community health problems, especially those linked to enviornmental factors. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of St. Louis Park that we fully support and encourage the adoption of legislation establishing a state-wide cancer surveillance system to monitor the rate of cancer incidence and to facilitate responses to enviornmental factors that may be related to cancer.
