HomeMy WebLinkAbout7274 - ADMIN Resolution - City Council - 1982/11/08NOVEMBER 8, 1982 RESOLUTION NO. 7274 RESOLUTION CANVASSING RETURNS OF SPECIAL CITY ELECTION HELD NOVEMBER 2, 1982 WHEREAS, the City Council has duly met as a canvassing board as required by the City Charter for the purpose of canvassing the election returns of the Special City Election held November 2, 1982, wherein electronic voting devices and computer were used for the casting and tabu- lating of votes in every voting precinct of the City; and WHEREAS, the City Council has duly inspected the Summary Statements of said election certified to by the election officers; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of St. Louis Park: 1) Said election returns be hereby canvassed, and the number of votes cast for and against the Charter amendment voted upon, together with the number of absentee ballots, are as follows: SPECIAL ELECTION Charter Amendment: Terms of Mayor and Total Regular Absentee Council Percent Votes Ballots Ballots Yes 66.2 12,527 12,096 431 No 33.8 6,388 6,199 189 2) Upon the basis of such returns the aforementioned Charter amendment providing for changes in the terms of the lgayor and Council is hereby approved as provided in Section 2.03, Elective Officers, of the City Charter. 3) The total defective ballots cast at said election was 29. 4) The total valid ballots cast at said election was 22,420. 5) The judges of said election are listed as follows: Ward 1, Precinct 1 -Torah Academy Maxine Hamilton - Chair Arlene Sweet Nessa Laiderman Donna Hovland Margarette Jackson Anne Woods Rose Goldsteen Bernice Anderson Earl Johnson Ward 1, Precinct 3 -Central Cntr. Voters desiring to vote against the amendment, put a cross mark (X) in the square opposite the word NO. YES NO PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT — TERMS OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL Shall the St. Louis Park City Charter be amended to change the term of Mayor from two years to four years effective the 1983 municipal election; to hold the election of Council members elected at -large so that their terms will coincide with the Mayor's; and to hold the election of Council members elected by wards so that they are elected for four-year terms two years later; thus changing the first paragraph of Section 2.03 of the City Charter to read as follows: "Section 2.03. Elective Officers The Council shall be composed of a Mayor and six Councilmen who shall be qualified voters. The Mayor shall be elected at large for a term of twe four years.
