RESOLUTION NO. 7000
RESOLUTION STATING PREFERENCE FOR A STATE
REDISTRICTING PLAN
WHEREAS, State legislative districts are being redrawn to preserve the
integrity of representative government in accordance with
population data established in the 1980 decennial census; and
WHEREAS, A number of redistricting proposals have been developed to be
studied and considered by the State Legislature; and
WHEREAS, Some of these proposals would create districts that would
fragment municipal constituencies; and
WHEREAS, The fragmentation of municipal constituencies could impede the
workings of local government by diluting interests and
concerns of a municipality that are in competition with other
municipal jurisdictions represented in the same district; and
WHEREAS, The workings of local government could be further complicated by
a redistricting plan that is not cognizant of municipal precinct
boundaries;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of, St. Louis Park
that in the event that combining St. Louis Park with other municipalities
becomes inevitable, it is the preference of the City to be placed in a
district with cities of the second and third class but not with cities of
the first class, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City not be divided into more than two
House districts and one Senate district.
