RESOLUTION NO. 6789
RESOLUTION OF THE ST. LOUIS PARK CITY COUNCIL
EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR SENATE FILE 198,
UNIFORM INFORMATION PRACTICES ACT
WHEREAS, the present Data Privacy Act does not provide adequate
safeguards for the privacy of victims of crimes, and
WHEREAS, the present Data Privacy Act is cumbersome and difficult
for municipalities to administer, and
WHEREAS, the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State
Laws has spent two years developing the Uniform Information Practices
Act, and
WHEREAS, the Uniform Information Practices Act appears to provide
better protection for the privacy of individuals while at the same time
allowing for the dissemination of information needed by the public, and
WHEREAS, the Uniform Information Practices Act would streamline the
administration of records management in municipalities, and
WHEREAS, the Uniform Information Practices Act would place Minne=
sota in a compatible situation with other states,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of St.
Louis Park expresses its support for adoption of Senate File 193, Uniform
Information Practices Act by the Minnesota Legislature.
