HomeMy WebLinkAbout6732 - ADMIN Resolution - City Council - 1980/12/15December 15, 1980 llb RESOLUTION NO. 6732 RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR CITY PARTICIPATION IN GROUP LIFE INSURANCE FOR CITY EMPLOYEES WHEREAS, the City Council desires to make available to City employees the benefits and advantages of group insurance rates and coverage as auth- orized by M.S.A., Section 471.61; and WHEREAS, the City of St. Louis Park and the County of Hennepin have entered into a contract for joint participation in providing group life insurance for City employees in the group insurance plan now in effect for County employees; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of St. Louis Park: 1) The City Manager and the Mayor are hereby authorized to execute and renew from time to time on behalf of the City various group life insurance contracts including provision for basic coverage including waiver of premium, accidental death and dis- memberment in the sum of $5,000 and also providing supple- mentary coverage for Voluntary Group Life Insurance on employees and their dependents in the forms and for the purposes authorized by law in M.S.A. 471.61 for the benefit of the employees and officers of the City where execution of contracts is required and to approve such contracts where approval thereof shall be required. 2) The group insurance plans hereby authorized shall be limited to the group life insurance plan currently in existence between Hennepin County and Western Life Insurance Company, and to that between the City and North American Life and Casualty Company. 3) Effective with the January 1981 installment, the City shall pay to the insurers from the funds of the City for such approved group life insurance coverage for its regular employees and officers, except employees covered under union contracts, the full amount of the premium for the basic coverage mentioned above, and the City shall deduct from the compensation of such officers and employees and pay to insurers the premium authorized in writing for supplementary insurance of their choice in excess of the amount provided by the City as above mentioned, all in accordance with M.S.A. 471.61; and that additional life insurance including accidental death and dismemberment in the amount of $5,000 shall be provided to all regular non-union non -supervisory personnel with the premium to be paid by the City; and further, that additional life insurance in amounts to be determined by the City in excess of the $5,000 basic coverage, shall be provided supervisory personnel and the premium therefor to be paid by the City. 4) The appropriate officers are hereby authorized and directed to deduct the proper amounts for any such premiums and to remit to the insurer such deductions and City contributions as are hereinbefore mentioned.
