HomeMy WebLinkAbout6355 - ADMIN Resolution - City Council - 1979/09/15RESOLUTION NO. 6355 A RESOLUTION RELATING TO NE INDUSTRIES/ TARACORP, INCORPORATED WHEREAS, the City of St. Louis Park was provided certain information relating to lead contamination of employees of Golden Auto Parts, connecting that condition with activities of the Taracorp plantat 3645 Hampshire Avenue; and WHEREAS, based upon that information, on September 5, 1979, the City of St. Louis Park suspended the air pollution operating permit of Taracorp; and WHEREAS, the City of St. Louis Park is now informed that some of the information originally supplied to it concerning this matter was inaccurate; and WHEREAS, Taracorp, Inc., has indicated the automobile salvage activities of Golden Auto Parts may have potential lead contamination consequences; and WHEREAS, the City of St. Louis Park intends to both aggressively pursue all complaints of unlawful pollution discharges and also to be fair to all parties accused of such discharges; and WHEREAS, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) are engaged in tests and studies which will determine the existence of anv unlawful contamination activities and the source of any such activities; and WHEREAS, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is presently negotiating a stipulation agreement with Taracorp, Inc., which will produce _a time schedule for early improvements for environmental safety; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of St. Louis Park directs the City staff to do the following: 1) Withdraw the action taken on September 5, 1979, to suspend the air pollution operating permit of Taracorp, Inc. 2) Continue to cooperate with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and the Minnesota Department of Health in their studies of the complaints relating to lead contamination, to the extent that answers can quickly be obtained to the questions of whether there is any unlawful contamination and if so, by what parties. 3. Immediately report the results of such tests to the City Council so it can consider, on complete and reliable data, what action, if any, is required to ensure the health of all residents of St. Louis Park.
