HomeMy WebLinkAbout6213 - ADMIN Resolution - City Council - 1979/02/05Q February 5, 1979 8C RESOLUTION NO. 6213 RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR LOCAL SELF-INSURANCE LEGISLATION WHEREAS, the City of St. Louis Park has experienced tremendous increases in the cost of all types of municipal insurance, in particular, liability and Worker's Compensation insurance, as evidenced by the following figures: Increase 1977 to 1979 1977 1978 1979 Amount Percent General Liability $ 21,435 $122,416 $209,867 $ 188,432 879% Automotive 25,326 32,043 42,527 17,201 687, Worker's Compensation 135,753 180,653 250,000 114,247 847, All-risk property 9,866 '19,801 22,074 12,208 124% TOTALS $192,380 $354,913 $524,468 $ 332,088 1737e WHEREAS, the cities of Bloomington, Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Coon Rapids, Crystal, Edina, Fridley, Golden Valley, Minnetonka, Richfield,and St. Louis Park and Hennepin County have had preliminary discussions of the possibility of cooperatively self-insuring or jointly purchasing insurance; and WHEREAS, it appears it may be financially advantageous for these cities to participate in a cooperative self-insurance effort; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of St. Louis Park urges the Legislature to adopt either general or special legislation to authorize these local entities to cooperatively self -insure their risks. st: City lerk Adopted by the City Council Febru ary 5, 1979 eviewed for - inistration: City Manag Mayo Approved as to form and legality: City Attorney
