HomeMy WebLinkAbout5862 - ADMIN Resolution - City Council - 1977/10/03Q RESOLUTION NO. 5862 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL APPROVING AN INTERCHANGE AT WEST 36TH STREET AND HIGHWAY 100, REQUESTING STATE SUPPORT OF FAU FUNDING, AND, AUTHORIZING STEPS FOR IMPLEMENTATION. WHEREAS, the City of St. Louis Park and the State of Minnesota have jointly participated in the intersection study of West 36th Street and Highway 100 for purposes of identifying a suitable interchange to alleviate the intersection problems, and WHEREAS, the intersection of West 36th Street and Highway 100 repre- sents one of the highest traffic volume intersections with one of the highest turning movement counts in the State, and WHEREAS, the intersection of Highway 100 and West 36th Street will, with the completion of the interchange work in Edina, be the only remaining at -grade intersection on Highway 100 from I-494 to north of 36th Avenue North, a distance of 11 miles, and WHEREAS, the City's adopted Comprehensive Plan, including the thorough- fare plan and other plans and policies of the City, provide for an interchange at West 36th Street and Highway 100, and WHEREAS, the City previously adopted Alternative 9 as representing the best interchange design and transmitted its approval to the State which -has lead to further studies of this interchange by the City and the State, and WHEREAS, the City has completed evaluation of new alternatives and has reported its findings in the report, Intersection Study --West 36th Street and Highway 100 --Case No. 77 -22 -ST. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Louis Park hereby: 1. Accepts the report, Intersection Study --West 36th Street and Highway 100, which identifies Alternative 4A4 and variations thereof as the best alternative with Alter- native 5 being identified as the next best alternative. .2. Requests the State to support Federal Aid Urban funding of the interchange with construction to commence in 1980. L . t 1 f 3. Requests the State to include the interchange in its program of road improvements. 4. Requests the State to initiate a Project Development Report and/or other steps necessary prior to prepara- tion of plans and specifications so that construction of the interchange can commence by 1980.
