RESOLUTION NO, 5796
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING HENNEPIN COUNTY TO
INSTALL A TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT THE INTERSECTION
OF CEDAR LAKE ROAD (CSAH 16) AND HAMPSHIRE
AVENUE IN ST. LOUIS PARK.
WHEREAS, Cedar Lake Road (CSAH 16) is under the jurisdiction of
Hennepin County; and
WHEREAS, Cedar Lake Road intersects with Hampshire Avenue, and
Eliot School is located in the northwest quadrant of the intersection;
and
WHEREAS, Eliot School is a community education facility, daycare
center, School District art and music center, and a neighborhood
playground which generates pedestrian and vehicular traffic which
must cross Cedar Lake Road; and
WHEREAS, Hennepin County recently removed a flashing pedestrian
crossing signal at the intersection; and
WHEREAS, Hennepin County previously agreed on April 23, 1976, to
install a traffic signal at the intersection in view of the many and
varied activities taking place at the school which generates pedestrian
activity; and
WHEREAS,Hennepin County informed the City on April 18, 1977, that
the traffic signal would not be installed at the intersection because
of the closing of the Eliot elementary school; and
WHEREAS, The use of the Eliot elementary school as a community
education center, daycare center, neighborhood playground and
center for the school district's art and music activities create a
situation where the intersection of Hampshire Avenue and Cedar Lake
Road is a continuing hazard to the safety and welfare of both
pedestrians and vehicular traffic in St. Louis Park;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of St. Louis Park that
Hennepin County is hereby again requested to install the needed traffic
signal at the intersection of Hampshire Avenue and Cedar Lake Road to
provide for improved pedestrian and vehicular safety.
Adopted by the City Concil August 15, 1977.
