RESOLUTION NO. 5455
RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR CITY PARTICIPATION IN
GROUP LIFE INSURANCE FOR CITY EMPLOYEES JOINTLY
WITH HENNEPLN COUNTY
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to make available to City employees the
benefits and advantages of group insurance rates and coverage as authorized
by M,S.A., Section 471.61, and
WHEREAS, the City of St. Louis Park and the County of Hennepin have entered
into a contract for joint participation in providing group life insurance for
City employees in the group insurance plan now in effect for County employees,
therefore
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of rhe City of St, Louis Park that:
1. The City Manager and the Mayor after Council approval be and they
hereby are authorized to execute and renew from time to time on
behalf of the City various group life insurance contracts including -uE
provision for basic coverage including waiver of premium, accidental'st
death and dismemberment in the sum of $5,000, and also providing
supplementary coverage for Voluntary Group Life Insurance on
employees and their departments, in the forms and for the purposes
authorized by law in M.S.A. 471,61 for the benefit of the employees
and officers of the City where execution of contracts is required,
and to approve such contracts where approval thereof shall be
required,
2. The group insurance plans hereby .atbh6:t-zed shall be limited to the
group life insurance plan currently in existence between
Hennepin County, North American Life and Casualty Company, and
Western Life Insurance Company,
3. Effective January 1, 1976, the City shall pay to the insurers
from rhe funds of the City for such approved group life insurance
coverage for its paid employees and officers, permanent or
probationary regardless of the manner of their selection or
appointment, the full amount of the premium for the basic coverage
mentioned above and the City shall deduct from the compensation of
such officers and employees and pay to insurers the premium
authorized in writing for supplementary insurance of their choice in
excess of the amount provided by the City as above mentioned, all in
accordance with M.S.A. 471.61; and further, that additional life
insurance in amounts to be determined by the City Council, in
excess of the $5,000 basic coverage, shall be provided supervisory

personnel and the premium therefor to be paid by the City.
Nothing in this section, however, shall apply to positions
represented by Teamsters Local No. 320.
4, the appropriate officers are hereby authorized and directed
to deduct the proper amounts for any such premiums and to remit
ro the insurer such deductions and City contributions as are
hereinbefore mentioned.
