RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING FILING OF APPLICATION FOR
HENNEPIN COUNTY LAKE IMPROVEMENT FUNDS FOR THE
WESTWOOD HILLS ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER
WHEREAS, in 1966 the Hennepin County Board unanimously adopted a Policy
Statement on Lake Improvements, and
WHEREAS, in support of its policy to expand the Lake Improvement Program,
the County has declared its intent to participate in the cost of land acquisition
for public areas and public access, as well as the cost of improvements for
boating, navigational aids and recreation, and
WHEREAS, the proposed Westwood Hills Environmental Education Center fully
meets the criteria set forth in the County's Policy Statement and will both
preserve and improve a valuable water resource and provide educational and
recreational opportunities for all of Hennepin County and the Metropolitan area,
and
WHEREAS, in 1973 the Board of County Commissioners unanimously adopted a
resolution of support of the City's efforts to develop an Environmental Education
Center, and •
WHEREAS, this project has also received support and endorsement from the
Village of Golden Valley, the Metropolitan Council and the State Planning Agency;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of St. Louis
Park:
(1) That an application be made to the Hennepin County Board of Commis-
sioners for a grant in an amount which is presently estimated to be $344,750
and that the Applicant will pay the balance of the cost from other funds
available to it.
(2) That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to execute
and to file such application with the County to provide additional information
and to furnish such documents, as may be required by said agency, to act as
the authorized correspondent of the Applicant and the City Manager and the
Mayor are hereby authorized to excute such contracts as are required by said
agency.

(3) That the proposed acquisition and development is in accordance with
plans for the allocation of land for open -space uses, and that, should said
grant be made, the Applicant will acquire and retain said land for the uses
designated in said application and approved by the County Board of Commissioners.
