HomeMy WebLinkAbout4788 - ADMIN Resolution - City Council - 1973/04/02ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. - I RESOLUTION OF OPPOSITION TO STATE REGULATION OF CABLE TELEVISION WHEREAS, Senate File 1233 (H.F. 1310) provides for the establishment of a State Commission on Cable Communication with extensive regulatory powers; and WHEREAS, the development of cable communications represents a significant opportunity for municipalities to influence the growth of a peculiarly local form of communications, and WHEREAS, the development of cable communication is being comprehensively considered by municipalities both singly and cooperatively in efforts to fully anticipate the potentials and problems of cable communications, and WHEREAS, the assumption of cable regulatory powers by the State of Minnesota will be an expensive duplication of regulation and will stifle the experimentation for development.of cable communications by application of uniform standards, and WHEREAS, the assumption of cable regulatory powers by the State of Minnesota causes a further reduction in the ability of people to retain home rule and a significant level of government responsiveness, therefore BE IT RESOLVED that the St. Louis Park City Council requests the City's Senator and Representatives to oppose the adoption of the above bills and to actively work for the retention of municipal home rule in this critical area.
