AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ST. LOUIS PARK
ORDINANCE CODE CHAPTER 3, PERSONNEL, TO INCLUDE PART 8
RELATED TO PAID -ON-CALL EMPLOYEES
OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
THE CITY OF ST. LOUIS PARK DOES ORDAIN:
Sec. 1. The St. Louis Park Ordinance Code Chapter 3, Personnel, is amended to include:
PART 8 - Paid -on-call Employees of the Fire Department
Section 3-800. Definitions.
(1) "Paid -on-call employment" shall mean permanent employment that
provides for the continuity of fire service on an as needed basis
where the normal work schedule is less than fourteen (14) hours per
week.
Section 3-801. Applicability of Personnel Ordinance to Paid -on-call Employees.
Due to the unique nature of paid -on-call employment, only certain
sections of the St. Louis Park Personnel Code shall apply.
(1) The following sections of the Personnel Ordinance are applicable to
paid -on-call employees of the Fire Department:
Section 3-101. Definitions.
Section 3-103. Prohibitions.
Section 3-104 Political Activity.
Section 3-201. Appointment Procedure.
Section 3-202. Promotions and Demotions.
Section 3-204. Resignation.
Section 3-205. Grievance Policy.
Section 3-206. Lay-offs.
Section 3-208 Temporary Appointments
Section 3-301. Position Classification and Salary Plan.
Section 3-401. Individual Pay Rates.
Section 3-403. Tuition Reimbursement Program.
(2) Terms and conditions of employment outside of the sections hereby specified
shall be determined by either Council action or by directive of the Fire
Department. Council approval shall be required for conditions of
employment relating to compensation, performance bonuses or insurance. All
other conditions of employment shall be provided for through department
directive. These directives shall be authorized by the Fire Chief and approved
by the City Manager.
Sec. 2. This ordinance shall take effect July 15, 1996.
Adopt by the City Council July 1, 1996.

• Summary This ordinance amends the St Louis Park
Ordinance Code by adding Part 8 which establishes the
terms and conditions of employment for paid -on-call fire-
fighters Pard -on-call employment is defined, applicability
of the current ordinance is defined, and the process to
determine future terms and conditions is established
Effective Date This ordinance shall take effect on July
15, 1996
