ORDINANCE NO. 95-2032
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ST. LOUIS PARK MUNICIPAL
CODE, SECTION 6-406(L), ESTABLISHING RULES AND
REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE PRESENCE AND CONDUCT
OF PETS IN CITY PARKS
THE CITY OF ST. LOUIS PARK DOES ORDAIN:
Sec. 1. The St. Louis Park Ordinance Code, Section 6-406(L),
is amended to read as follows:
(L) Pets. It shall be unlawful for any person to cause or permit a dog, cat, or other pet
or animal under that person's care and control, with the exception of seeing -eye
dogs and police dogs, to be present in any areas of the public parks.

Exceptions. Pets shall be permitted in trail areas and parking facilities at
Aquila Park, Carpenter Park, Dakota Park, Lamplighter Park, Oak Hill Park,
Shelard Park, Wolfe Park, Oak Park Village, Otten Pond, and the Bass
Lake Preserve, provided that:
(a) The pet is properly licensed;
(b) Pets shall be under control at all times. The pet owner is liable for
any action taken or damage caused by the pet;
(c) All pets shall be restrained at all times on adequate leashes not longer
than six feet. Nothing herein shall be construed to permit the running
of pets at large.
(d) Persons conducting pets in the public parks must have in their poss-
ession tools or equipment suitable for the removal of animal fecal
material and shall promptly and effectively remove from the ground
or surface of any park and any park facilities all fecal material de-
posited there by a pet under their care and control. Persons remov-
ing animal waste from park surfaces shall dispose of it in a sanitary
manner, which may include depositing it in any designated waste
receptacle located in the public parks.

(2) Sienage. The Director of Parks and Recreation shall cause signs to be
erected in all public parks to inform park users of the distinction between
areas where pets are prohibited in accordance with Subsec. (L) above
and areas where pets are permitted in accordance with Subsec. (L)(1)
above.

Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall become effective
15 days after its publication.

SUMMARY This ordinance now permits pets in trail
areas and parking facilities at Aquila Park, Carpenter
Park, Oak Hill Park, Shelard Park and Otten Pond, in
addition to the previously approved Dakota Park,
Lamplighter Park, Oak Park Village and the Bass Lake
Preserve The ordinance also repeals the "pilot program"
and its June 30, 1995, expiration previously established
EFECTIVE DATE This ordinance shall be in effect 15
days following its pubhcation
