CITY OF ST. LOUIS PARK
ORDINANCE NO. 95-2;26
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ST. LOUIS PARK CODE OF ORDINANCES,
SECTION 6-406(1), TO ESTABLISH RULES AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING
THE PRESENCE AND CONDUCT OF PETS IN THE CITY PARKS
THE CITY OF ST. LOUIS PARK DOES ORDAIN.
The St. Louis Park code or Ordinances, Section 6-406(1) is amended to read as follows:
Section 1. Pets. It shall be unlawful for any person to cause or permit a dog, cat, or other pet or
animal under that person's care and control, with the exception of seeing -eye dogs and
police dogs, to be present in any areas of the public parks.
Section 2. Pilot Program. Commencing on October 15, 1994, pets shall be permitted in trail
areas and parking facilities at Dakota Park, Lamplighter Park, Oak Park Village and
the Bass Lake Preserve, provided that:
(a) The pet is properly licensed
(b) Pets shall be under control at all times. The pet owner is liable for any action
taken or damage caused by the pet.
(c) All pets shall be restrained at all times on adequate leashes not longer than six feet.
Nothing herein shall be construed to permit the running of pets at large.
(d) Persons conducting pets in the public parks must have in their possession tools or
equipment suitable for the removal of animal fecal material and shall promptly and
effectively remove from the ground or surface of any park and any park facilities
all fecal material deposited there by a pet under their care and control Persons
removing animal waste from park surfaces shall dispose of them in a sanitary
manner, which may include depositing them in any designated waste receptacle
located in the public parks
Section 3. Signage. At each of the aforementioned parks included in the Pilot Program, the
Director of Parks and Recreation shall cause signs to be erected to inform park users
of the distinction between the areas in which pets are prohibited in accordance with
Section 1 of this ordinance and the areas in which pets are permitted in accordance
with Section 2 of this ordinance.
Section 4. Expiration. Section 2 and Section 3 of this ordinance shall expire on June 30, 1995
unless Council otherwise acts to extend or enlarge the scope of the Pilot Program.

AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING
THE PRESENCE AND CONDUCT

SUMMARY This ordinance extends to June 30, 1995,
the pilot program which permits pets m trail areas
and parking facilities at Dakota Park, Lamplighter
Park, Oak Park Village and the Bass Lake Preserve.
The purpose of the time extension is to gather data in sup-
port of further extension, expansion, or termination of the
program
EFFECTIVE DATE This ordinance shall be in effect
15 days following its publication
