AN ORDINANCE ADDING SECTIONS 11-103 (18) AND 11-313 TO THEA,
ST. LOUIS PARK CITY CODE: PROHIBITING THE FEEDING '-
OF DEER AND RACCOONS AND DECLARING SUCH ACTION A NUISANCE
WHEREAS, the feeding of deer and raccoons on private property encourages
these animals to stray out of their natural habitats in search of food; and
WHEREAS, straying animals looking for food cause a threat to the public health,
safety and welfare which has resulted in the Toss of shrubbery and other property
damage, the increased potential for car/deer accidents, and the increased potential for
contact with deer ticks that could result in contracting Lyme Disease:
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF ST. LOUIS PARK DOES ORDAIN:
Sec. 1 The St. Louis Park Code is hereby amended by the addition of Section 11-
103 (18) to read:
Section 11-103(18). Feeding of deer and raccoons prohibited.
(1) Prohibition. No person shall feed deer or raccoons within the
boundaries of the City. Feeding shall include, but not be limited to,
providing liquids or edible material to deer or raccoons. Living food
sources, such as fruit trees and other live vegetation, shall not be
considered as edible material.
(2) Exception. This sections does not apply to veterinarians, City
employees, City animal wardens, or county, state or federal game officials
who in the course of their duties have deer or raccoons in their custody
and/or under their management.
Sec. 2. The St. Louis Park Code is hereby amended by the addition of Section 11-
313 to read:
Section 11-313. Feeding deer and raccoons is prohibited and declared a
nuisance per Section 11-103(18) of this code. Persons causing such
action shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
Sec. 3. This ordinance will take -effect -15 days after its publication.
