AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ST. LOUIS PARK MUNICIPAL CODE RELATED TO
DOG LICENSING: AMENDING SECTIONS 13-501, 13-502 and 13-503;
ADDING SECTION 13-501.101, "SERVICE DOG LICENSE FEE EXEMPTION"
THE CITY OF ST. LOUIS PARK DOES ORDAIN:
Sec. 1. The St. Louis Park Municipal Code is hereby amended to read:
Section 13-501. Dog License Required. No person shall own, keep, or harbor any
dog over three months of age without first having obtained a dog license from
the Treasurer for a fee of $7.50. It shall be the duty of each person owning,
keeping or harboring a dog to pay the license fee by February 1 each year, or
upon acquiring ownership or possession of any unlicensed dog, or upon establishing
residence in the City. All dogs licensed hereunder must have a current rabies
vaccination. The City may cause a notice of the necessity of paying such
license fee to be printed in the official newspaper in January of each year.
Section 13-501.101. Service Dog License Fee Exemption. Service dogs which are
used for the purpose of assisting disabled persons shall be exempt from the
license fee as stated herein provided that a certification of assistance training
frau a recognized school or program is submitted with the license application.
Section 13-502. License Records. The application describing the dog as to
owner, breed, age and rabies information shall be retained in the City records.
Section 13-503. License and Tags. The Treasurer shall deliver one tag to the
owner when the license is issued. The owner shall attach the tag to the collar
of the dog in such a manner that it may be easily seen by the officers of the
City. The owner shall insure the tag is constantly warn by the dog. A duplicate
tag may be issued to replace a lost tag upon payment of one dollar.
Sec. 2. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect 15 days after its
publication.
