ORDINANCE NO. 1641-85
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ST. LOUIS PARK ORDINANCE CODE,
CHAPTER 3, PERSONNEL, SECTION 3-606, RELATED TO HOLIDAYS
THE CITY OF ST. LOUIS PARK DOES ORDAIN:
Sec. 1. The St. Louis Park Ordinance Code, Section 3-606 (2) is amended
to read:
(2) Holiday. The following legal holidays shall be observed for
City employees:
New Year's Day - January 1,
Washington & Lincoln's Birthday - third Monday in Feb.,
Memorial Day - last Monday in May,
Independence Day - July 4,
Labor Day - first Monday in September,
Veteran's Day - November 11,
Thanksgiving Day - fourth Thursday in November,
The Friday after fourth Thursday in November,
Christmas Day - December 25,
and provided when New Year's Day, Independence Day, Veteran's
Day or Christmas Day occur on a Sunday, the following day
shall be observed as a holiday; further provided when these
same dates occur on a Saturday, the preceding day shall be
observed as a holiday.
No public business shall be transacted on any holiday, except
in cases of necessity and except in cases of Public business
transacted by the Legislature, nor shall any civil process be
served thereon.
Each calendar year, an additional paid holiday to be designated
by the City Manager, shall be granted to all permanent and pro-
bationary employees. In addition, upon completion of the
initial six (6) months' probationary period, each employee shall
be eligible annually for one floating holiday to be taken with-
in the calendar year in which it is earned.

In order to receive holiday pay, an employee must be on paid
status on his/her normally scheduled working day preceeding
and his/her normally scheduled working day following the day
observed as a holiday.
Employees who are required to be on duty on any legal holiday
shall be compensated for time worked at one and one-half times
the regular rate of pay, either by cash payment or by compen-
satory time off, in addition to the eight (8) hours' pay given
for the holiday.
Sec. 2. This ordinance shall take effect January 1, 1985.
