ORDINANCE NO. 1265
AN ORDINANCE DECLARING CATS TO BE A
NUISANCE UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS
AND PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR PERSONS
HARBORING SUCH CATS
THE CITY OF ST. LOUIS PARK DOES ORDAIN:
Section 1. The St. Louis Park Ordinance Code is hereby amended by
adding the following:
Section 4:215. Certain Cats Declared a Nuisance. No person
shall own or possess any cat which destroys, damages or defiles property or
which creates an offense by way of noise, odor or otherwise, or molests
other animals or human beings, or is in heat and unconfined, after
receiving notice from the City of the prior commission of such acts by
the cat in question. Such cats are declared to be a public nuisance.
Section 4:216. Notice of Owner. Upon written complaint of
any person stating the acts committed by any cat, the name and address of
the person owning or harboring the cat, and the name and the address of
the person making the complaint, the City shall notify the person owning
or haboring the cat of the acts complained of to restrain the cat from
committing any more such acts.
Section 4:217. Abatement of Nuisance When Owner is Unknown. In
the case of any cat constituting a nuisance under Section 1, where no
owner or responsible party is ascertainable, the City may take whatever
action is deemed appropriate to abate the nuisance.
Section 2. Penalty. Any person violating the provisions of this
ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be
punished by a fine of not more than $300.00 or by imprisonment for a
period of not to exceed 90 days or both.
Section 3. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect 15
days after its publication.
