The following provisions of this ordinance shall be a part of the St. Louis Park Building Code for inclusion in the Uniform Building Code, 1958 Edition, above adopted by reference, with the cita- tions herein contained indicating the placement of the provisions of this section of this ordinance in such code in accordance with the section numbering scheme of such code: Section 2202 Sheathing Type V buildings three stories in height shall have all exterior walls of the first story covered with solid sheathing as specified in this Section. Such sheathing, when of wood, shall be applied diagonally. Sheathing shall be one or more of the following materials: Wcod not less than five-eighths, inch (5/8") thick. Fiberboard not less than three-fourths inch (3/4") thick, ccxnplying with U. B. C. Standard No. 22-1-58. Plywood not less than five-eighths inch (5/8") thick complying with U. B. C. Standard No. 25-11-58. Section 2302 (b) Special Provisions shall be made in designing office floors for a load of 2, 000 pounds placed upon any space two and one-half feet (2-1/21 square where ler this load upon an otherwise unloaded floor would pro- duce stresses greater than those caused by a uniformly distributed load of 50 pounds per square foot. Provisions shall also be made in designing garage floors or suspended driveways upon which passenger cars and/or trucks will be stored or driven, for a load of 2, 000 pounds or maximum wheel load, whichever is greater, placed upon any space at the center of the span, wherein such loading would produce stresses exceeding those caused by the uniformly distributed loads shown in"Table No. 23-A". In deet fining floors to be used for industrial or commercial purposes the ,-actual live load caused by the use to which the building or part of the buTxding is to be put, shall be used in the design of such -2- building or part thereof, and special provision shall be made for machine or apparatus loads when such machine or apparatus would cause a greater load than specified for such use in Section 2304. Floor in office buildings and in other buildings, where parti- tion locationare subject to change, shall be designed to support, in addition to all other loads, a uniformly distributed load equal to twenty pounds per square foot. Public garages and commercial or industrial buildings in which loaded trucke are placed, used, or stored shall have the floor systems designed to eupport a concentrated rear wheel load of a loaded truck or automobile placed in any possible position. Section 2304 The unit loads set forth in Table No. 23-A shall be taken as the minirnwn live loads in pounds per square foot of horizontal projection to be used in the design of buildings for the occupancies listed, and loads at least equal shall be assumed for uses not listed in this Section but which create or accomrnodate similar loadings. Ceiling joists shall be designed for not less than ten pounds per square foot live load. If the pitch of the roof above is 4:12 or greater; such ceiling joists shall be designed for not less than thirty pounds per square foot total load. All balcony railings shall be designed to withstand a horizontal force of twenty pounds per lineal foot, applied at the top of the railing. Section 2 305 Roof Loads Roofs shall sustain, within the stress limitations of this Code, all "dead loads" plus unit "live loads" as follows: The roof live loads in pounds per square foot on the horizontal projection of pitched roofs shall be assumed as 40 pounds for all roofs varying from 0 to 10 degrees. The roof live loads may be reduced ono pound for each degree by which the slope angle exceeds ten (10) degreee, to a minimum. of ten (10) pounds. This reduction will not be allowed on roofs of buildings less than three (3) feet from adjoining property line or building and when a pocket is formed with any vertical surface or other roof, roof loads shall be applied to such area of roof as will develop maximum stresses in the members. The live loacs shall be assu=red to act vertically upon the area pro- jected upon a horizontal plane. -3- • Greenhouses, lath houses, and agricultural buildings shall be designed for a vertical live load of not less than thirty pounds. Trusses and arches shall be designed to resist the stresses caused by unit live loads on one-half of the span if such loading re- sults produced by the required unit live load upon the entire span. For roofs whose structure is composed of a stressed shell, framed or solid, wherein stresses caused by any point loading are dis- tributed throughout the area of the shell, the requirements for un- balanced live load design may be reduced 50 per cent. When the form factor, as deteranined by wind tunnel tests or other recognized methods, indicates vertical or horizontal loads of lesser or greater severity than those produced by the loads herein specified, the roof structure may be designed accordingly. Snow load, full or unbalanced, or wind load shall be considered in place of loads as hereinbefore set forth in this Section, where such loading will result in larger members or connections. Table 23 -A --UNIT LIVE LOAD shall be added: Garages, storage Garages, storage cars S. To table 23-A or repair.. , ... 150 private pleasure 80 Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect fifteen days after its publication.
