CITY COUNCIL STUDY SESSION
ST. LOUIS PARK, MINNESOTA
May 29, 1991
1 . Call to order
Mayor Hanks called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.
2. Roll call
The following Councilmembers were present: Jeff Jacobs, George Haun,
Larry Mitchell , Jane Tschida and Lyle Hanks.
Staff members present were the City Manager, Director of Community
Development, Planning Coordinator, Assistant to the City Manager/Personnel
Officer, Director of Parks and Recreation and Planner/Draftsperson.
Remaining portions of the proposed zoning ordinance were reviewed.
The timetable suggested by staff for implementation of the ordinance
appeared agreeable to the Council .
The proposed Human Rights Commission letter that would be mailed to
III the Sailor was discussed and the Council expressed its desire to meet
with the commission. It was the consensus of Council that the commission
could send the letter to the Sailor at this time.
An update was provided on marketing concepts for the Recreation Center
with particular attention devoted to the possibility of developing
banquet facilities. Councilmember Haun briefed the Council on the possible
interest on the part of the Minnesota Park & Recreation Association
in exploring possible utilization of the Rec Center for office space.
Director Gears was authorized to followup on this possibility with
MPRA.
Councilmember Haun briefed the Council on the recognition plan for
John Ross. The Council seemed agreeable to having the ball field at
Texa Tonka Park renamed John Ross Field.
The citizen response to the Neighborhood Revitalization Committee was
noted. The Council appeared inclined to appoint all individuals who
had expressed interest to the committee.
A variety of items were briefly discussed under the heading of Other
Business.
The meeting adjourned at 9:35 p.m.
