LOUIS PARK, MINNESOTA September 17, 1990 The meeting was called to order at 6:22 p.m. Present were Bruce Battaglia, George Haun, Larry Mitchell , Lyle Hanks and City Manager Bill Dixon from the City of St. Louis Park; Present from the School Board were Mark Schwartz, Jim Rhodes, Cari DeWall , John Rogers, Joyce Abramson, Geoff Driscoll , Betty Shaw and Superintendent of School District 283 Carl Holmstrom. A 6-person committee (3 from the City; 3 from the School Board) met over the summer to discuss the following facilities issues: buildings, pool use and gym/recreation facilities. The following ideas were explored: a. Possibility of the City pool being used as a year-round facility. Currently, it was felt the cost to do so would be prohibitive. b. Possibility of different allocation of times and use of times at 4 pools 111 (3 at the District, 1 of the City's) . c. Gymnasium facilities - No need to build more gyms. Challenges can be met by means of scheduling. d. Possibility of more shared facilities with Benilde St. Margaret. e. Traveling basketball and volleyball needs discussed. The consensus was that it is unlikely new facilities will be built. It was suggested that Community Education look at Benilde St. Margaret to augment its facilities. Sale of Central Community Center was not seen as wise from a financial standpoint. Discussed possibility of hiring an asset manager to look at facilities, programs, etc. The committee decided to put facility exploration on hold until the School Board makes a decision on elementary school needs. That decision is expected later in 1990. The meeting adjourned at 7:02 p.m. -111)4 11°1 )4-(ir4iti Mayo AA/fAaTh R-cording Secretary
