Call to Order The Mayor called the joint meeting of the City Council and the Policy Advisory Committee to order at 6:30 p.m. 2. Roll Call The following City Council members were present at the joint meeting: Ronald Backes, Thomas Duffy, Keith Meland, David Strand, Lyle Hanks. The Police Advisory Committee was represented by Karen Reeves, Kay Thrall, Meyer Weinstein and Mark Schwartz. City and school staff in attendance at the meeting included the City Manager, the Superintendent of Schools, the Director of Community Education and the Assistant Director of Community Education. 3. Community Education budget Karen Reeves discussed some new directions that are occurring in the Community Education program. She noted that an increased demand for child care and related services exists. She also discussed the creation of a Lenox Foundation ,.. In addition, Karen Reeves explained some of the marketing efforts that I� are underway to reach prospective clients of Community Education programs. rogram Betty Bothereau, Director of Community Education, said the Um"ity ET/ is in a stronger position this year because of changes that were implemented last year. She reviewed the budget assumptions upon w',061 Lhe revised 1985-86 budget and the proposed 1986-87 budget wera prepared. She noted that the Community Education budget included two new program areas. There is a new volunteers budget; this budget used to be part of the community schools budget. There is also a handicapped schools budget that has been created for 1986-87. Councilman Backes noted that a $1,500 contribution to the Lenox Foundation was included in the 1986-87 budget for the senior program. He questioned if this donation might not go the way of other "one-time" donations that become standard budget items. The City Council agreed to place the City's contribution to the Community Education program on its May 5 agenda. 4. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 7:05 P.M.
