PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY COMMISSION
ST . LOUIS PARK , MINNESOTA
March 13 , 1969
A special joint meeting of the Council and Parks & Recreation Advisory
Commission was called to order at 7 : 45 p . m . by Mayor Thiel .
The following Councilmen were present at roll call :
Murray Galinson Richard Koch
Richard Graves Robert Reynolds
James Heltze r Leonard Thiel
Frank Howard
Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission members present were :

Ron Berthe Dr . Stanley Veker

Present from the staff were : City Manager , Parks & Recreation Director ,
Planning Director , and Acting Secretary .
Mr . Carl Graffunder presented his final preliminary plans for the proposed
Community Center . Included in the presentation was a site plan , floor plan ,
scale model and revised cost estimate .
After the presentation a discussion was held about the proposed bond sale
for financing the project .
Mrs . Charles Wright , representing the League of women Voters , addressed
the Council assuring them of the total support of the League .
Mr . Harry W inegarden , president of the St . Louis Park Young Republicans
Club , spoke in favor of the proposed center .
Councilman Galinson moved that the Council go on record as favoring
construction of the Community Center in accordance with the plans prepared
` by the architect and that a Steering Committee consisting of the Mayor , City
Manager , two Councilmen , two Parks & Recreation Commission Members ,
a representative from the League of Vomen Voters , and the Executive
Director of the Chamber of Commerce be appointed to organize the campaign
for the proposed bond sale and establish necessary subcommittees . Council -
man Koch seconded and the motion carried unanimously .
Mr . Floyd Nerheim , 2904 Trampshire spoke as a representative of St .
Louis Park hockey groups and volunteered all help necessary to ensure

Motion was seconded by Councilman Koch and carried unanimously.
On motion by Councilman Reynolds , seconded by Councilman Koch , the
meeting was adjourned at 9 : 50 p . m . by a seven yea vote .
