HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958/07/10 - ADMIN - Minutes - City Council - Regular 480 Board of Equalization Meeting - July 10, 1958 0 The adjourned Board of Equalization meeting was called to order by Mayor Lefler at 10 a.m. with the following present: Mayor Herbert P. Lefler Councilman D. C. Messer Councilman H. J. Bolmgren Councilman Kenneth Wolfe Councilman Robert Ehrenberg Councilman H. C. Davis City Assessor City Clerk The following persons appeared: Mrs. S. A. Marcus, 3700 Huntington Avenue, (with her attorney) stated that $19,000.00 tharket value was too high. Referred to the Assessor who will revalue the property. Wm. C. McCadden, 8208 Highway No.7, Barber Shop, regarding Personal Property. He felt that his assessment was too high according to others. The Assessor will revalue and adjust all Barber Shops. John Gideo of Gideo Construction, 3048 Aquila Avenue, regarding Personal Property - Assessors value $300.00 is too high Mr. Gideo stated. He is not carrying on business at present. Assessor will make a new appraisal. Donald Bissonette, 9000 Stanlen Road, regarding Personal Property which he thought was too high. Assessed value $50.00 which is $10.00 less than 1957. It was moved by, Councilman Davis, seconded by Councilman Wolfe, that the Assessors valuation for Donald Bissonette stand. Motion passed by unanimous vote of six yeas. . Neil Zoss, 3129 Dakota Avenue, regarding Personal Property. This was his first assessment and he wanted to know how it was arrived at. It was pointed out that his assessment ran approximately the same as those in his block. He said ok. Meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. The following were present at the afternoon session: Mayor Herbert P. Lefler Councilman Bolmgren Councilman Wolfe Councilman Ehrenberg Councilman Davis City Clerk City Assessor Councilman Jorvig arrived about 3 p.m. 481 4 r July 10, 1958 A letter from J. P. Byron, Attorney for the owners of Lots 3, 4 and 5, Block 3, Minikanda Vista, was presented, requesting a reduction in the assessed valuation, claiming that the market value of the property was not over $39,000.00 On motion of Councilman Davis, seconded by Councilman Bolmgren, the re- quest for a lower v aluation of the above property was denied, by a vote of five yeas. Walter Goodlund, 7833 Cambridge Street, regarding Real Estate Assessment. He stated that the valuation had been nearly doubled due to addition built to home - and he felt that was out of line. The assessor was requested to make a reappraisal of the house and would then discuss the matter with them. Russell Holter appeared regarding the assessed valuation of home at 3924 Randall. Due to the age of the house he felt that there should be a reduced valuation. The assessor, was requested to revalue the building. Martin Ring appeared regarding the valuation of 4230 Basswood Road. He felt that the market value of $52,000.00 was too high. He was asked the con- struction cost, but he did not have the figures with him. Be said he would bring in the figures to the Assessor, who will then give this place another look. Dr. M. R. White, Dentist, 5240 Excelsior Boulevard, felt that the valuation of his equipment too high. A comparison was made of other dentist offices in the City, and it was explained that his tax would be approximately $84.00 payable next February. He seemed satisfied with this information. Mrs. J . M. Peterson, 4250 Vernon Avenue, said that the market value was too high due to the house being on the State Highway. It was suggested that she have a private appraisal and the assessor said he would be satisfied with the short form appraisal made by Dewey Newcombe. When said appraisal is received the assessor will discuss the valuation with Mrs. Peterson. Mrs. E. L. Erickson, 4367 Vernon Avenue, said her reason for coming in was that she had received an estimate of $300.00 for taxes, but that the valuation given by Assessor would make taxes much higher. She gave a market value of approximately $18,300.00. The Assessor said he would make a revaluation of this property. Meeting adjourned at 4:07 p.m. / 41411, Attest: Her.-rt' P.
