Special Meeting - October 7, 1957
A special meeting was called by action of City Council September 16,
1957 for the purpose of discussing the Proposed Westwood Hills Park Site.
Meeting was called to order by Councilman Davis, at 4:52 p.m. with the
following present:
Councilman Davis Councilman Schadow
Councilman Ehrenberg Councilman Wolfe
City Manager Tom Chenoweth Assistant to City Manager John Hane
c City Manager Interne Mike Lenrow P1. Consultant Jim Hawks
Mpls. Park Board, Chas Doell Joseph Justad Secretary
Hl: Councilman Jorvig arrived at 5:03 p.m.
The City Manager reported that he had employed Carl Gardner EY Associates
to prepare an analysis of the proposed City Park in the vicinity of Westwood
Hills Golf Course and that he had invited Charles Doell of the Minneapolis Park
Board to be present, to answer questions.
A general discussion was had on the Special Report, An Analysis of a
City Park in the Vicinity of Westwood Hills Golf Course, presented by Jim Hawks,
Planning Consultant.
Charles Doell, made some general remarks regarding the value of early
planning for Parks and the acquiring of sufficient sites.
The meeting was then adjourned for dinner where the discussion continued
with Charles Doell answering many questions.
Mr. Doell offered to take the Council on a tour of some of the Minneapolis
Parks so that he could point out some pertinent requirements of a suitable Park
system. The time was set for 3:30 p.m., Monday, October 14th, 1957, with the
meeting place set as the Minneapolis Park Board Warehouse, entrance at 38th Street
and Bryant Avenue South. /
