Bid Awarded - Sanitary Sewer, Cont'd. ...62.
Orfei and Mariani, received July 6, 1948, for the construction of sanitary a ,..
sewer in West 35th Street, from Wooddale Avenue to Zarthan Avenue was approved
in the amount of $29,835.60, and determined to be the lowest bid of a respon-
sible bidder, and the President (Acting) and Clerk were authorized to enter
into a written contract with Orfei and Mariani for the construction of said '
sewer, on forms approved by the Village Attorney, at price bid. Motion was
passed by unanimous vote of Council Members present.
Hearing Date - Water Main Extensions
On motion of Trustee Bolmgren, seconded by Trustee Jorvig, August 23,
1948 was set as date for hearing on the following water main extensions; by un-
animous vote of Council Members present:

truck, as advertised in the St. Louis Park Dispatch:

' On motion of Trustee Bolmgren, seconded by Trustee Jorvig, the above bids
were referred to the St. Commissioner and Street Department Committee Chairman
for checking and recommendation, by unanimous vote of Council Members present.
Adjourned Hearings - Street Improvements,' July 19, 1948
' Adjourned Hearings, deferred from meeting of July 19, 1948 were resumed
on petitions for grading and graveling of streets and alleys, as follows:
' GRADING OF 27th STREET FROM SALEM AVENUE TO RALEIGH AVENUE ----- George
Crone said he was opposed because it would leave him up high and spoil his
whole setup. Speaking for Axel Johnson, 2704 Raleigh Avenue, Mr. Crone said his
garage is in such a position that he would have to put up a wall to hold it up.
' A petition signed by Mr. A. Mark, 2701 Salem Avenue and others, dated
July 23, 1948 requesting the immediate grading of 27th Street from Salem Avenue
to Raleigh Avenue, was read. A. R. Segal, Attorney for Mr. Mark stated that
27th Street is a traffic hazard. Mr. H. Mc Kitterick, 2643 Salem Avenue and
E. E. Edin, 2647 Salem Avenue said-they were opposed to grading of 27th Street.
George Crone said the grading of 27th Street would make a mess of the Axel
Johnson property.
It was suggested that this matter be deferred to August 9th meeting to
give the Council an opportunity to visit the location and check Johnson's
situation.

On motion of Trustee Bolmgren, seconded by Trustee Jorvig, the matter of
grading alley between 27th Street and 28th Street -- Salem Avenue to Raleigh

Repair Damage Caused by Grading •
On motion of Trustee Bolmgren, seconded by, Trustee Jorvig, the Street_
Commissioner was instructed to repair the damage caused by the grading of alley
in Block 21, Park Manor -- adjacent to Lots 26 and 27, by constructing driveways
to garages, and report the cost to the Village Councils Motion was passed by
unanimous vote of Council Members present.

On motion of Trustee Bolmgren, seconded by Trustee Jorvig, the Clerk was

copper horns - bids to be opened August 23, 1948. Motion was passed by unani-
mous vote of Council Members present.
Convention Expenses Authorized (AWNA)
On motion of Clerk Justad, seconded by Trustee Jorvig, Water Superintend-
ent, Ira Vraalstad and Trustee Bolmgren were authorized to attend the American
Waterworks Association convention September 1, 2, 3, 1948 at Winnipeg, with ex-
penses paid, by unanimous-vote of Council Members present.
Specifications for Storm Sewer Drain Approved
On motion of Trustee Bolmgren, seconded by Clerk Justad, the plans and
specifications prepared by Village-Engineer, J. C. Utton for storm sewer to
drain excess water around pump houses 1 and 2, were approved, and the Clerk was
authorized to advertise for bids to be opened August 16, 1948, by-unanimous vote
of Council Members present.
Permission to Place Poles
On motion of Trustee Bolmgren, seconded by Trustee Jorvig, the Northern
States Power Company was granted permission to place the following poles, by
unanimous vote of Council Members present:
1 pole in alley - Franklin Avenue and Cedar Lake
Road; Georgia Avenue and Hampshire Avenue.
1 pole in alley --Wooddale and Alabama Avenues;
36th Street and 37th Streets.
1 pole in alley -•Wooddale and Zarthan Avenues;
36th Street and 37th Street.
Gas Main Extensions
On motion of Trustee Bolmgren, seconded by Trustee Jorvig, the application
of the Minneapolis Gas Light Company for permission to make the following gas
main extensions was approved by unanimous vote of Council Members present:

#4422 - 3 inch main in Colorado Avenue
from West 16th Street to Lot 6,
Block 5, Thorpe Brothers University
Club Addition.
#4420 - 3 inch main in Colorado Avenue
from Minnetonka Boulevard to Lot 11,

Gas Company's Setup -
A letter dated July 30, 1948 from the President of the Minneapolis Gas
Light Company explaining their setup, gas rates, etc. was read and ordered filed.
Hearing Date Set - Street Vacation
On motion of Trustee Jorvig, seconded by Trustee Bolmgren, August 23rd,
1948 was set as date of hearing on the petition of L. V. Feldman, 4201 Cedar
Lake Road and others, for the vacation of Forest Lane from Cedar Lake Road to
a point 149.15 feet South thereof (abutting Lot 1, Block 3; Lot 4, Block 4;
Lot 5, Block 4; Lot 6; Block 4; Lot 7, Block 4; Lot 8, Block •4, Lake Forest Tract,
Lake Forest Addition). Motion was passed by unanimous vote _of Councilmen
present.

Convention Expenses Authorized-Recreation Congress
On motion of Trustee Jorvig, seconded by Trustee Bolmgren, Trustee Jorvig,
Chairman of Park and Recreation Committee was authorized to attend the 30th
National Recreation Congress, September 26 and 27, 1948, at Omaha, Nebraska,
with necessary expenses paid, by unanimous vote of Council Members present.
Slope Easements for Grading West 28th Street
On motion of Trustee Jorvig, seconded by Trustee Bolmgren, the Village
Attorney was instructed to contact Sterling Stageberg, 4421 West 28th Street
and make arrangements for slope easements for grading of West 28th Street,
West of Joppa Avenue, by unanimous vote of Council Members present.
Fire Report for July, 1948
The Fire Department's Report of Fires for July, 1948 was read and ordered
filed.
Sale of Property Authorized
On motion of Trustee Bolmgren, seconded by Trustee Jorvig, the Village
Attorney was authorized to deal with Mrs. Fred W. Birnbach, who wishes to
purchase a strip of land five or ten feet wide from Lot 5, Block 7, Brookside
Addition, by unanimous vote of Council Members present.
