On motion of Trustee Perkins, seconded by Trustee Bolmgren, the bid of Orfei & Mariani was referred to the Village Engineer for checking and recommen- dation by unanimous vote of the Council. ' Bid - Storm Sewer A bid for the construction of Storm Sewer in Brooklawns Addition - in Dakota Avenue at 392 Street was received from the Phelps-Drake Company; and as this was the only bid received, it was moved by Trustee Perkins, seconded by Trustee Bolmgren that the bid of Phelps-Drake Company in the amount of $1,516.25 less $50.00 bonus (allowed because their equipment was in vicinity), was approved, and the President and Clerk were authorized to enter into a written contract with the Phelps-Drake Company for the amount bid -- on forms approved by the Village Attorney. Motion was passed by unanimous vote of the Council. Bingo A letter dated July 6, 1948, from the St. Louis Park Volunteer Fire 2 84 July 6, 1948 Bingo, Continued Department, stating that they are planning to play Bingo at their annual _$ carnival, August 7 and 8, was read. No action taken. Hawkers License Approved On motion of Trustee Perkins, seconded by Trustee Bolmgren, the appli- cation of George L. Brooks, 4153 Vernon Avenue, feor a 1948 license to operate a trailer restaurant (sell popcorn, soft drinks & sandwiches), was approved, and the President and Clerk were authorized to issue license to expire December 31,.1948, by unanimous vote of the Council. Advertise for Bids - Ladder for Fire Dept. On motion of Trustee Jorvig, seconded by Trustee Bolmgren, the Clerk was instructed to advertise for bids for One (1) all aluminum 55 foot extension ladder with stay poles and stay pole locks, standard 241t width -- price to in- clude mounting on 500 gallon American-La France pumper overhead; and an alternate bid without mounting. Bids to be opened August 2, 1948. Motion was passed by unanimous vote of the Council. Permission to Place Poles On motion of Trustee Perkins, seconded by Trustee Bolmgren, the Northern States Power Company was granted permission to place one pole at each of the following locations, by unanimous vote of the Council --- III Walker Street at Republic Street (vacated) Zarthan Avenue and Alabama Avenue; 28th & 29th Streets Bingo A letter dated July 6, 1948, from the St. Louis Park Post No. 5632, VFW, stating that they are planning to play Bingo on Saturday nights during the months of August, September and October, 1948, was read to the Council. No action taken. Off Sale Liquor License Denied On motion of Trustee Jorvig, seconded by Trustee Bolmgren, the application of William Hodroff for a license to sell hard liquor Off-Sale at 7200 Minnetonka Boulevard, was denied by unanimous vote of the Council. Building Permit for Miniture Golf Course On motion of Trustee Bolmgren, seconded by Trustee Perkins, the Building Inspector was instructed to issue a building permit to Hugh Mc Elroy Company for a temporary building for Miniature Golf Course on the North side of Excelsior Boulevard at Princeton Avenue. Motion was passed by unanimous vote of the Council. Patrolman Appointed (Clyde Sorensen) On motion of Trustee Perkins, seconded by Trustee Bolmgren, Clyde Sorensen was appointed to the Police Department as a Patrolman as of July 1, 1948, at the starting salary of $198.00 as base, plus $45.00 cost of living increase or $238.00 per month, as certified by the Police Civil Service Commission. Motion was passed by unanimous vote of the Council. Justice of Peaces' Report of Fines Justice of Peace E. A. Linnee's Report of Fines covering cases-#368 thru #417; and Justice of Peace N. W. Joubert' s Report of Fines covering cases #342 thru #370, were read and ordered filed. Fire Department Report for June, 1948 The Fire Department's Report of Fires for June, 1948 was read and ordered filed. Governor's Conference on Fire Convention On motion of Trustee Jorvig, seconded by Clerk Justad, Fire Chief C. M. Williams and as many of the Councilmen who can go were authorized to attend the Second Annual Governor's Conference for Fire Prevention, at the Nicollet Hotel, August 26 and 27, 1948, with necessary expenses paid. Motion was passed by un- animous vote of the Council. Specifications for Re-drilling Well #3 On motion of Trustee Bolmgren, seconded by Clerk Justad, the Village Engineer was instructed to prepare specifications for re-drilling Well #3 from its present depth of 290 feet to 500 feet, by unanimous vote of the Council. Specifications for Overhead Water Storage Tanks On motion of Trustee Bolmgren, seconded by Trustee Jorvig, the Village Engineer was instructed to prepare specifications for One (1), 500,000 gallon overhead storage tank; and One (1), 1,000,000 gallon overhead storage tank to be located adjacent to Well #5, by unanimous vote of the. Council.
